Obsession of the day: Hurricane Lanterns!

Preparing to move over Labor Day weekend and shopping around for knick knacks I just "have to have!" Today I stumbled across some hurricane lanterns and wanted to buy every single one! There is something calming about accessorizing your outdoor space with them. Not to mention all the different ways you can use them to decorate depending on time of year/ holiday!

Baby Diaper Cake!

The first of my girlfriends is expecting early September! (Hi Baby Aiden!) I always wanted to make baby gifts special, but given that I cannot knit, a blanket was out of the question! What I can do is roll up diapers and make a cake out of!

Mommy-to-be loved it and I was surprised to be the only one to bring one!

There is a great tutorial on YouTube on how to do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4q-YE0sn3Mw&feature=related

It's actually super fun too!  What I used:

- 92 pack of Pampers Sawddlers
- 3 large rubber bands
- 92 small rubber bands for each diaper
- Baby shampoo (for center support of cake)
- Baby power (for center support of cake)
- Baby body wash (for center support of cake)
- Stuffed animal for "cake topper"
- Ribbon in two complimentary shades, 2" and 1" in width
- Small items from registry such as pacifiers, socks, rattles, etc to decorate around the cake

Dining Table Chairs!

First things first, I know if I want to show good "Before and After" pics of projects, I should probably take "Before" pics! I'll get there!

I shopped around for chairs for my dining room table for weeks. I didn't like how expensive they all were and didn't think they all needed to match! Consignment store to the rescue! Found a 6 light wood chairs all with the matching element of a cane style back. I loved that each of the "head of the table" chairs were different and then the side chairs were all the same! A little paint, some fabric and voila!

Current obsession: garden stools!

For some reason, I just can't pass by a garden stool without daydreaming about where I would put it at home! Such great colors!

My first refurb!

This was my first project ever! I had just moved into my apartment in the city after moving home to Seattle from Los Angeles. I wanted some extra seating around, but didn't want standard chairs. I can't find the before pics, but picture light wood with HORRENDUS red dated plaid fabric on top. It was tragic! I got both stools for $20 at a second use store.
Can't wait for the paint to dry!

Isn't this fabric gorgeous? $4.95 a yard at a local fabric store!

What do you think? I now use them in my living room and stack magazines on top for easy access!
Sorry for the bad quality! They are right next to a window!
